Lanes Closed On I-75 At Rouge River Bridge For Pothole Repairs

DETROIT (WWJ) - Another giant pothole on northbound I-75 at the Rouge River Bridge is causing some issues for drivers on Monday.

Two right lanes are blocked north of Schaefer in Southwest Detroit because of the three by five foot pothole — right at the base of the bridge.

MDOT spokeswoman Diane Cross said emergency repairs were underway before noon.

"This is just north of the entrance for Fort Street/Schaefer," she said. "So it's just on the incline when you head up the bridge."

Tire-busting potholes are a continuing problem in this area. Cross said the bridge is an aging structure, but they have a project in the works that will begin in a little over a year from now.

"We'll begin actually working on the bridge in early 2017 in the spring," she said. "We will be replacing the entire driver surface of the Rouge River Bridge — I-75 between Downriver and Detroit...We will replace the entire driving surface and the deck that supports the driving surface."

Cross said they hope to have all lanes back open in time for Monday's afternoon commute.
