Hi, My Name Is Bill, And I'm A Self-Hating Lions Fan

DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) Today is Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015. My name is Bill McAllister and I am a self-hating Detroit Lions fan.

I've followed the team since I was seven years old and endured all of it, the highs, the lows, and more lows, a few more lows and the occasional high.

Last year's squad finished the regular season 11-5...pretty good. If not for a botched call in the playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys, who knows what might have happened.

Odds are, nothing. They would have blown it somehow because that's what they do.

Last week, coach Jim Caldwell held his weekly press conference and rather defiantly stated that nothing would change. Coaches would not be fired, everyone will remain employed.

While Caldwell spoke, the team was getting ready to fly to London later in the day for a game against the lowly Kansas City Chiefs. No guarantee but, Lions had an OK chance at winning that game at Wembley Stadium.

Less than fours later, Caldwell returned to the podium to announce that OC Joe Lombardi and OL coaches Jerimiah Washburn and Terry Hefferman had been fired.

Why would Caldwell say he had seen the game film three times and decided that no one would be let go, only to come back out to say that those individuals had indeed been fired?...Because it's what they do.

Back to the Kansas City game this past Sunday, again, a winnable game. Or at least a 'keep it close' game. The Lions had the early lead, 3-0 and then allowed the Chiefs to go on a 38-0 run! No interceptions for a touchdown, no fumble recovery for a TD, nothing other than the Chiefs offense going on an undefended 38-0 run. Why?...Because that's what the Lions do.

Having lived here my entire life, the Lions are my team and I want them to win every game...BUT...as I watch them week after week after week, as the game inevitably gets out of control, I find myself hoping the Lions lose. I get some weird contentment out of watching them fold and I don't like it.

Again, I want them to win, but there's so much wrong with this team, this franchise, this ownership, that when they have yet another abysmal season, I can't help but think, "serves you right."

This is what your efforts get you, a horrible, inept football team and I can't wait to watch the next implosion...see you in Green Bay!
