Temperature Expected To Break A Record Today; What's Next?

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) With temperatures soaring under clear blue skies, many metro Detroiters had to be wondering Wednesday afternoon: Is it play hooky o'clock yet?

It wasn't just a beautiful day, it could be the most beautiful day  we've ever experienced on November 3 in Michigan.

Temperatures were expected to break an all-time record, reported WWJ 950's Sandra McNeill. Lots of parents took the opportunity to bring their children to the Detroit Zoo.

"Many are in shorts and short sleeves, some even in tank tops," McNeill reported.

Katie Hudson brought her children Alexis and T.J. to enjoy the unseasonably balmy day.

"She's off school today, he's not in school yet and we just decided to come out to the zoo today to enjoy the warm weather and apparently everybody else in the metro area is doing the same thing," she said.

She added they had to wait 45 minutes to get inside. It's the latest into the fall season she's ever been able to visit the zoo.

"It's nice ... The kids don't have cabin fever yet," she told McNeill.

Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa told WWJ the average temperature for this time of year is 55 degrees.

The record of 75 degrees was set in 1987.

With a few hours of daylight left, Torregrossa said he expected us to inch a degree or two above that today.

Because you're in Michigan, enjoy it while it lasts. Highs are expected to struggle into the low 50s by this weekend.
