Elderly Sterling Heights Couple Attacked, Robbed After Pulling Into Garage
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - An elderly Macomb County man is in serious condition after police say he and his wife were attacked by a robber at their home.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Thursday as the couple was pulling into their attached garage in the 42000 block of Jason Court, in a neighborhood near 19 Mile Road and Schoenherr in Sterling Heights.
As the 89-year-old man was exiting the passenger side of the vehicle, police say he was attacked by an assailant who hit him over the head with such force that he was knocked to the ground. The suspect then went to the driver's side of the car and snatched a purse right from the arm of an 84-year-old woman, according to police.
The attacker fled the scene on foot. The woman, who suffered some scratches during the altercation, sought help from a neighbor who called 911. Authorities rushed the man to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Police have not yet released a physical description of the suspect, who remains at large.
