Motorcade To Raise Funds And Awareness For Teen Cancer Plight

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Williams family learned that their 14-year-old daughter, Ciera, had ovarian cancer in July. Since the diagnosis, Sophia and Velton Williams have maxed out their insurance but the Detroit community will show their support Sunday at 3 p.m. with a motorcade in Ciera's honor.

Family friend and organizer, Brenda Hill, says Ciera is fighting her diagnosis courageously.

"She gives us a smile, she is a big trooper. I call her 'Ciera the Brave,' she may not know how much she is doing for the world - but she is absolutely putting on a brave face so that other children can see that you can live with this and live through this," said Hill.

Hill, whose mother died of ovarian cancer, organized Sunday's motorcade and rally to help support the family.

"We need to raise money for this family," says Hill. "We can't change the diagnosis but we absolutely can make them comfortable enough financially that they can focus only on their daughter and the rest of their family."

A GoFundMe account has been set up at 4 Ciera Motorcade -- as of Sunday they are over halfway to their goal of $10,000.

Everything kicks off at 3 p.m. at Duke Ellington Elementary-Middle School on Detroit's eastside.
