Oakland County Man Describes Terrorist Attacks From Inside Paris Soccer Stadium

PARIS (WWJ) -- Dan Sharkey, of Oakland County, and his family were at the soccer match between France and Germany at the Stade de France in Paris when three explosions echoed outside the stadium on Friday night.

"Halfway through the first half -- maybe the 20, 25-minute mark -- we heard an explosion," Sharkey said. "I honestly had no idea what was going on. I thought it was like some pyrotechnics for the game or something.

"Then we heard a second explosion and people looked around -- it was just kind of weird," Sharkey said. "We heard three of them in the first half. I never made a connection that there was anything going on."

Sharkey said he had no clue what was going on until later.

"We were walking home, heard sirens, couldn't get to our hotel -- all of the blocks were blocked off," Sharkey said. "We had to show them our key to let us through to get to our hotel.

"As we're walking through, looked through a window and saw CNN and all the news channels reporting through a bar that there was a terrorist attack in Paris," Sharkey said.

Sharkey said that they are scheduled to return home Sunday but, that may change with the country's closed borders.

A series of shootings and explosions killed at least 100 people during the attacks, while hundreds of others were held hostage. French president François Hollande declared a state of emergency, closing all of the country's borders.
