CLARENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 21-year-old man was wounded in an accidental shooting on the first day of Michigan's firearm deer season.

The Calhoun County sheriff's department says the man was hunting in Clarendon Township on Sunday morning when he dropped a semi-automatic shotgun while trying to remove his jacket.

The department says the man was shot in the upper torso. Emergency crews responded and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The wound wasn't considered life-threatening. The shooting happened near the southern Michigan village of Homer, where the man lives.

Firearm deer season in Michigan runs through Nov. 30.
