GPS In Stolen Computer Leads Police To Home Invasion Suspect

BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities say a home invasion suspect is now in custody after police traced the crook's footsteps using a GPS signal from a computer that was stolen in the crime.

The situation unfolded around 5 p.m. Monday, when police in Bloomfield Township responded to a home invasion in the 400 block of Evansdale, in a neighborhood near Wattles and Squirrel roads.

The homeowner told police he left around 4 p.m. and returned an hour later to find his back door had been forced open and all the televisions, computers, and gaming systems had been stolen from the home. Evidence technicians processed the crime scene and located several valuable pieces of evidence which eventually led to the identification of the suspects, according to police.

Around 9 p.m. that night, investigators used GPS tracking from one of the stolen computers and determined it was in the 40 block of Hillside in Pontiac, near Baldwin Avenue and Montcalm Street.

On Tuesday, officers executed a search warrant at the home and recovered two of the stolen televisions and the stolen computers. Investigators also recovered evidence related to separate home invasion in Auburn Hills that occurred on Monday. At that point, 23-year-old Christopher Eric Dietrich was taken into custody.

On Wednesday, investigators arrested a second suspect, 19-year-old Raymond Renard-Lenor Gee, at a home on Vinewood Court in Pontiac, in connection with the Bloomfield Township home invasion.

Dietrich was arraigned at the 48th District Court on charges of second degree home invasion and was ordered held on a $200,000 cash bond ahead of a December 3 probable cause hearing.

Gee is still awaiting arraignment.
