Cabela's Moving To Macomb County? Retailer Eyeing Space At Proposed Outlet Center

CHESTERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - One of the largest outdoor retailers in the nation is looking to build a second store in southeast Michigan.

Macomb County officials say Cabela's will be among the stores opening as part of the Outlets of Southeast Michigan mall planned to go up near M-59 and I-94 in Chesterfield Township.

John Paul Rea, the incoming director of the Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development, told the Macomb Daily that "all signs point to Cabela's coming in."

"I'm confident the county and the township put their best foot forward on this effort," Rea told the newspaper. "There's such a large concentration of people in Macomb who enjoy hunting and fishing. This definitely would be a store catering to those people."

Cabela's currently has a store in Dundee, south of Ann Arbor. Other store locations in Michigan include Grandville and Saginaw.

The 330,000-square-foot Outlets of Southeast Michigan could be open in 2017. The shopping center will feature an open-air format with high-end retailers, restaurants and a hotel.
