Latest Flint Blood Samples Show Small Share With High Lead
FLINT (AP) - The state says a small percentage of more than 1,300 Flint residents showed elevated lead levels in their blood in tests taken since Oct. 1.
Five micrograms of lead per deciliter is the measure that's considered elevated. Flint has trouble with lead because corrosive water from the Flint River was releasing lead in old plumbing in the city.
Michigan health officials say 21 children and nine adults in Flint had elevated lead levels in their blood. The results were sent to the state by doctors and clinics, a statewide requirement when testing for lead.
Flint used the Flint River from spring 2014 until returning to the Detroit water system in October.
The rate of elevated lead was lower than in tests performed during summer.
