Detroit Medical Center Lays Off 125 Workers To 'Operate More Efficiently'

DETROIT (WWJ) -- The Detroit Medical Center announced Monday that it is laying off 125 people, or one percent of its workforce.

Officials say they'll work with those laid off to try to find them other positions within the hospital.

"These staffing reductions are not a result of our system's performance, but rather an intentional change to operate more efficiently and allow us to expand our services for many years to come," DMC chief administrative officer Conrad Mallett said in a statement.

At the same time, the DMC plans to eliminate some open positions to reduce future layoffs.
