General Motors Investing $127M In Indiana Casting Plant
BEDFORD, Ind. (AP) - General Motors has begun investing $127.4 million in its southern Indiana casting plant to support production of new aluminum engine blocks and components, a move expected to create 127 new jobs.
Plant manager Lamar Rucker said new machinery is being installed, but didn't provide details. He said hiring was in its early stages.
The plant 75 miles south of Indianapolis has more than 700 employees on three shifts who make transmission casings, converter housings, heads and small gas engine blocks. The parts are used in Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles.
GM has invested more than $426 million in the Bedford facility since 2010.
State Rep. Eric Koch, R-Bedford, told The (Bedford) Times-Mail the announcement shows a "vote of confidence" in the products, workforce, community and state of Indiana.
