This morning, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced nominations for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards. As usual, the “Best Song” shortlist included adventurous choices from some of the year’s biggest films. Also, Lady Gaga won a “Best Actress—Miniseries or TV Movie” nomination for her role on American Horror Story, for which she will compete against Queen Latifah in Bessie.

Unfortunately for the nominees, the Golden Globes have an uneven track record predicting the Oscar contenders for Best Song. In recent years, they honored pop stars like Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Madonna and Lorde—none of whom managed to repeat on Hollywood’s biggest night.

However, Adele, John Legend and Common have all parlayed their HFPA recognition into Oscar statuettes since 2013. The 73rd Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by Ricky Gervais on January 10.
