Sergeant Santa: Chief James "Kringle" Craig Joins WWJ To Deliver Toys

DETROIT (WWJ) - There were a lot of smiles and a few happy tears as dozens of needy families got a holiday surprise Thursday in Detroit.

WWJ Newsradio 950, together with Detroit police, dropped off toys to kids and presents to parents as part of the Sergeant Santa program.

The gifts were delivered to families in each of the city's 12 precincts, including the Stricklands — who lost their 4-year-old son in a dog mauling earlier this month.

Diane Mapson and her 12 kids were shocked to see Police Chief James "Kringle" Craig at the front door, with his arms fill of wrapped packages.

"Look who's in my house! This is not real! Oh my God, this is awesome!" Mapson said. "It means the world. I couldn't even begin to explain. I'm shaking...God bless every last one of you all."

Craig and his officers were joined by WWJ's "Jingle" Jackie Paige.

"This is an opportunity for us to be able to be able to do something good as well, so thank you for letting us do this for your family," Paige told a woman, whose family received a new TV.
