Man Killed At Dearborn Heights Courthouse Was Arrested In November

DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ/AP) - A man who was fatally shot by a security guard at a metro Detroit courthouse was arrested in November for possessing a drug without a prescription.

According to a report in the Detroit Free Press, Mark Henning was scheduled to appear in Dearborn Heights court on Monday. He was killed Thursday at the city's Justice Center. Police say he was carrying a large knife and tried to bypass security.

The Free Press says Henning was arrested on Nov. 28 when his van hit a parked car. He was accused of possessing a sedative, Clonazepam, without a prescription.

Witnesses say Henning pulled a knife from his pocket and after multiple orders to drop the weapon, he charged a security guard before he was fatally shot.

The guard is a former Dearborn Heights police officer privately employed by the court.

Michigan State Police are handling the investigation.
