The Detroit Lions know they have a bit of a long road ahead of them, but it may not be as bad as some think. The team has a lot of talent and keeping them will be a key point to the offseason. One of the biggest question marks is that of wide receiver Calvin Johnson and if he will be playing his final game in silver and blue soon.
Big win on Monday night drops Lions in draft order
The big win over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night was a fun one that showed an explosive offense the Detroit Lions had been missing all season. That victory made four wins in the last six games and that's taken them from the number one overall draft pick to being out of the top 10 completely.
If the season were to end today, the Lions would have the 11th overall selection in next year's draft, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Players such as defensive tackle Dontari Poe, offensive tackle D.J. Fluker, and defensive end J.J. Watt have all been chosen 11th in recent years.
Sure, picking outside of the top 10 will save the Lions some money on that player's contract, and there will still be great talent to be had, but maybe not like in the top five. A lot can still change between now and the end of the season, but if the Lions keep winning, the further they will fall in the first round.
Is Calvin Johnson's last home game in Detroit on Sunday?
Wide receiver Calvin Johnson has already said he would like to finish his career with the Detroit Lions, but things like that don't always work out as some hope. According to some experts, Johnson could be playing his final home game for the Detroit Lions this Sunday, and if so, it would bring an end to an era.
Next year, Johnson carries a salary cap hit of $24.008 million and it's evident that even though 2015 has been a good season, his production has been down. Johnson has just one reception in each of the last two games, and his numbers are down across the entire board.
His thoughts are not on anything past the next game with the Lions, but others believe that it could be the final home event for Megatron in Detroit. The Lions will save a lot of money, but no matter where he lands, the team runs the risk of one of their best players of all time coming back to haunt them.
