Mom Accidentally Runs Over, Kills Baby On Christmas Eve
OAK PARK (WWJ) - Authorities say a 1-year-old child was killed in a tragic accident on Christmas Eve after her mother ran her over while exiting a driveway in Oak Park.
City Manager Erik Tungate said accident happened Thursday morning outside of the family's home on Marlow Street, near Oak Park Boulevard and Greenfield Road.
Tungate said the mother was with her four children and was reversing her vehicle out of the driveway when the accident happened. He said the woman didn't realize her 1-year-old had gotten out of her car seat, and she was run over.
Police responded to the scene within minutes and rushed the child to a local hospital in their patrol unit. However, there was nothing doctors could do to save the little girl, and she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The incident remains under investigation, but Tungate -- who has a 1-year-old child of his own at home -- said it appears this was just a tragic accident.
The girl's name has not yet been released.
