Dozens Gather During Vigil For Musician Killed Christmas Eve During Apparent Carjacking
DETROIT (WWJ) - As police continue to search for the person responsible for the death of a Detroit musician during an alleged carjacking, community members gathered for a candlelight vigil Sunday.
Reverend David Bullock was on hand to offer support to the family of Anthony Tolson.
"We come tonight because we are sick and tired of being sick and tired," said Bullock. "We come tonight because we know that Detroit is better than this - we come tonight because we know that if we have the faith, you have the power and you can do anything but fail."
Dozens came to pay respects for the man who lost his life during an apparent carjacking Christmas Eve.
"He was just a great guy, really funny, always telling jokes," said Brandon Wilson, who played music with Tolson.
Wilson said he was compelled to come to the vigil for his friend and for his three children who never got their gifts from their father Christmas day. "That man loved his kids," said Wilson. "He would always talk about his kids ... they were his heart."
Religious and community leaders will come together Monday morning -- asking for the public's help in solving the murder of Anthony Tolson.
Tolson was killed the evening before Christmas after he finished playing bass guitar at a church service. He was on his way to visit his children when he was carjacked and killed.
Tolson's family members will be among those on hand Monday morning at Central Baptist Church in Detroit.
