Teen Bank Robber Trapped Between Electronic Doors

DETROIT (WWJ) - A teen accused of robbing a Detroit bank didn't get very far with the cash.

Police Officer Shanelle Williams said the boy is behind bars after his failed crime Monday afternoon, at a Chase bank branch in the 15,000-block of W. 7 Mile Road in Detroit.

"The 16-year-old male entered the location, handed over a note to the teller, advised he had an explosive device...a bomb...and demanded money," Williams said.

The teller complied; but as the suspect tried to flee, the bank's electronic locks were activated, trapping the teen between a set of doors.

Williams said the suspect, found to be unarmed, was arrested without incident when police arrived.

"We did not recover an explosive device," Williams said.

The teen's name has not been released. Charges are pending.
