According to CBS' Jason La Canfora, the Lions have added another NFL executive to their list of general manager candidates.

Abrams is an assistant GM for the Giants, which have made headlines recently because of head coach Tom Coughlin resigning. For 14 years Abrams has been in his current position with New York, and previously was the Giants' salary cap coordinator. According to his bio on the Giants' website, Abrams is responsible mainly for player contract negotiations, Collective Bargaining Agreement compliance and salary cap management.

The Lions hired Rod Wood as team president several weeks ago to manage the organization's finances. Fans have clamored for the Lions to hire a GM with more experience in the personnel department, as the franchise's record in the NFL draft has been up-and-down, at best.

Abrams' bio does say that he "works with" the Giants' personnel departments for player evaluations.

According to La Canfora, Abrams is close to Ernie Accorsi, who the Lions hired to lead the team's search process. Wood previously said he knew that he, team owner Martha Firestone Ford and the rest of the board didn't have enough expertise to make the right hire without outside help. Accorsi was responsible for the Bears' search that ended in the hiring of head coach John Fox and GM Ryan Pace.

Previous reports have indicated that the Lions plan on interviewing the Patriots' Bob Quinn and the Seahawks' Trent Kirchner. Adam Schefter also reported that the Lions had requested to interview the Bengals' Duke Tobin, but that he was planning on remaining in Cincinnati.
