Hyundai Recalls More Than 150k Elantra Models, Says Sensor Malfunction Can 'Increase Risk Of A Crash'

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Hyundai has issued a recall for nearly over 150,000 of its Elantra models.

The company says it is recalling some 2011 and 2012 models because the electronic stability control system may malfunction and suddenly reduce engine power while trying to alter the car's direction.

Officials told regulators that the malfunction can "increase the risk of a crash." Hyundai says it's not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the defect.

The South Korean car company says it will begin notifying owners on Feb. 19. Concerned owners can also call the automaker at 800-633-5151.
