Michigan Prisoner Suspected Of Killing His Cellmate

FREELAND, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a prisoner is suspected of killing his 23-year-old cellmate at the Saginaw Correctional Facility in Freeland.

Prison staff responded Wednesday night to an assault taking place in their cell. One prisoner was found unresponsive.

Department of Corrections spokesman Chris Gautz told the Saginaw News that the prisoner was pronounced dead that night. He was serving time for criminal sexual conduct.

Gautz said the cellmate suspected in the death -- who is also 23-years-old -- has been transferred to another prison. He was serving time for unarmed robbery.

Names weren't immediately released. State police are investigating.
