Troopers Confiscate 1,222 Oxycodone Pills During Traffic Stops On I-75 In Monroe County

MONROE (WWJ) - More than 1,200 oxycodone pills were recovered during two routine traffic stops on I-75 in Monroe County, according to police.

The first incident occurred on January 16 when Michigan State Police troopers assigned to the Special Enforcement Section stopped a vehicle on southbound I-75 for improper lane use.

After speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, troopers became suspicious and asked to search the vehicle. During the search, troopers located 444 oxycodone pills hidden behind carpeting in the trunk.

According to police, a passenger in the vehicle admitted the pills were his, saying he was paid $500 to deliver the drugs to Ohio.

The second incident occurred on January 19 when troopers assigned to the same enforcement section stopped a vehicle for following too closely on southbound I-75.

After speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, troopers became suspicious and K9 "Otto" performed a sniff around the vehicle, giving a positive indication for narcotics. The vehicle was then searched and troopers discovered 778 oxycodone pills hidden in the dashboard.

Both incidents remain under investigation by Michigan State Police.
