Detroit Art Museum Leader Planning 'Director's Cut' Talks

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The director of the Detroit Institute of Arts is participating in a series of Detroit-area talks that offer residents a chance to share their ideas about the museum.

The first of the free "Director's Cut" events featuring Salvador Salort-Pons is Tuesday night at the Detroit Public Library's main branch. Others are planned in the coming months.

In September, the museum announced that 45-year-old Salvador Salort-Pons, who has served as director of the museum's European Art Department since 2011, would become its director, president and CEO.

He says he wants people to get to know him better and he wants to get to know them better as well. He says he wants to see if there are "opportunities for further engagement."

The DIA says Salort-Pons has played a key role in the museum's strategic planning process.

Salort-Pons plans to talk about the DIA, his favorite artworks and his vision for the museum. He'll take questions and seek feedback about the museum.

The events are free and the first one is on Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the main Detroit Public Library, 5201 Woodward Avenue.
