Michigan Man Gets 7 Years Prison For Indiana Hit-And-Run Fatality

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WWJ/AP) - A Michigan man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a hit-and-run crash that killed a Chicago man who had just left a Notre Dame football game.

A St. Joseph County judge sentenced Mark Madejek of Edwardsburg, Michigan, on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old had pleaded guilty to a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident, causing death, and a misdemeanor count of driving while suspended.

Authorities say Madejek struck Stephen Stetz Oct. 17 with his Jeep as Stetz was crossing a busy South Bend street after a Notre Dame football game, according to a report in the South Bend Tribune.

Police say Madejek exited his vehicle, looked at the unconscious Stetz and then drove away.

Stetz was a 27-year-old Chicago resident and Holy Cross College graduate. He died about a week later.
