Parent Rally: Stand Up For Our Children

By Sharlonda Buckman

Parents are the voice on behalf of their children. On Tuesday, February 9, parents and families will convene at Detroit Parent Network and march to the Fisher Building (3011 W Grand Blvd, Detroit, MI 48202) to take action for all students. We will then travel to the state capital in Lansing where we will continue to rally for the rights of our children.

We want:

• Repairs made on unsafe buildings immediately
• An executed plan to maintain healthy and clean buildings
• Teachers supported to teach, fairly compensated, and provided with adequate supplies and resources
• A safe and secure environment conducive to learning

Recently, Detroit Parent Network surveyed hundreds of parents on what their top concerns were regarding their children's education. Results showed that Parents were most concerned around: Teachers who care about kids, teacher shortages, and effective teachers. Many also shared that they were concerned with school building conditions and effective school security. On this day, Parents will unite to take action for the rights of all students.
