DETROIT (WWJ) – Authorities say a man was lucky to walk away with only minor injuries after his vehicle became stuck underneath a semi-truck during a crash on I-96.

The accident happened around 3:25 a.m. Saturday in the express lanes of eastbound I-96 near Davison Avenue on Detroit’s west side.

According to police, a man in his 30s was driving a Dodge Stratus when he stopped in the eastbound lanes.

“A semi-truck also travelling eastbound could not stop in time and struck the Stratus resulting in the vehicle getting stuck underneath the semi, entrapping the male inside,” police said in a statement.

The driver was cut from his vehicle and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Police say he has outstanding warrants and was driving on a suspended license.

The semi-truck driver was not injured.

Police say alcohol and narcotics may be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Charges are pending.
