Pet Owners In Detroit Can Get Dogs Vaccinated For FREE On Friday

DETROIT (WWJ) - Just in time for Valentine's Day, dog lovers can show love to their pets by protecting them from deadly diseases -- for FREE.

It's the Have a Heart, Save a Heart Pre-Valentine's Day Vaccination Clinic for dogs -- hosted by Detroit Dog Rescue and VIP Pet Care -- and this free clinic is the first of its kind in the city of Detroit.

Kristina Rinaldi, Executive Director of Detroit Dog Rescue, said they're seeing a lot of dogs die from a preventable disease.

"Right now we're seeing so many cases of Parvo virus, which is a very deadly virus. Treatment is very expensive and a lot of dogs don't even make it with treatment," Rinaldi told WWJ's Chrystal Knight. "So, we're seeing things like Parvo, we're seeing things like Lepto and all of these can be prevented by vaccinating your dogs."

The free vaccination clinic takes place Friday, February 12 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Pet Supplies Plus, located at 18956 Livernois in the Avenue of Fashion on Detroit's Northwest side. To qualify, Detroit residents must show proof of residency, either a driver license or state identification. Maximum of three dogs per household.

The clinic will provide pet owners  a full menu of free vaccines for dogs that includes Rabies, Parvo, Lepto and Bordetella.  In addition, other services and vaccinations will be available at an affordable price, including microchip identification ($15), Heartworm/Lyme testing ($29), Roundworm Deworm ($19), Tapeworm Deworm ($29), and Lyme ($31).

All vaccinations and microchip procedures will be performed on-site by veterinarians and vet-techs from VIP Pet Care.
