1 Injured In Detroit Fire Truck Crash Near Packard Plant

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit Fire Department rig is damaged and one person is injured after a crash on Grand Blvd. near the old Packard Plant.

The crash happened as a fire crew was responding to a call near Mack Ave. and Cadillac just before 6 a.m. Friday, DFP Sedond Deputy Fire Commissioner Sydney Renee Zack.

"Squad three was dispatched to a working box alarm at Herwood Street, and it was a vacant building," Zack told WWJ's Dave Ramos. "They were only a few blocks from quarters when they were t-boned, actually, by a civilian vehicle."

The driver of that vehicle was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital with minor injuries. No fire personnel were hurt.

The fire engine, on the other hand, will need some work. The passenger side of the truck was damaged, and a compartment that holds lifesaving equipment was banged up, said Zach.

Major front end damage was also done to the other vehicle involved.

The accident is under investigation.
