Man Suspected In 4 Rapid Abduction Attempts Turns Self In To Police

BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities say a man who tried to abduct four women within 15 minutes has turned himself in to police.

The 49-year-old Pontiac man walked into the Bloomfield Township Police Department around 9:30 p.m. Friday and gave himself up. Charges are pending.

According to police, the man approached at least four women within a 15 minute timeframe on Thursday afternoon at shopping center on the corner of Square Lake Road and Woodward Avenue and tried to lure them back to his van with the offer of money.

The first incident happened around 1:30 p.m., when the man allegedly approached a woman who was sitting in her vehicle parked near the Rite Aid pharmacy. Police say the man offered money to the woman, but made no physical contact. She refused and he walked away.

Moments later, at 1:32 p.m., police say the man approached another woman who was shopping inside a store and again offered her money. The man made no physical contact with the woman, who refused his advances.

Five minutes later, at 1:37 p.m., the man allegedly approached a 20-year-old woman who was parking her vehicle outside of the Qdoba restaurant. The woman told police the man forced her door open and asked if she wanted to make $100,000. When she declined, the man became "more aggressive" and attempted to forcibly remove the woman from the vehicle, according to police. The woman was able to resist and the man ran away, getting into a red panel van.

The woman went inside Qdoba and was being assisted by management when the man entered the restaurant around 1:45 p.m. and approached another female who was waiting in line. The man allegedly tried to lure that woman out of the restaurant, no physical contact was made, but she refused. He then fled the area in the red van.

Detective Sergeant James Gallagher said media coverage helped convince the man to turn himself in.

Investigators are still looking for anyone else who may have been approached by the suspect.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 248-433-7755.
