Who Would Be The Red Wings Emergency Goalie? Players And Blashill Respond [VIDEO]

It's the way of the world, guys no matter how athletic, believe, if given the chance could do an adequate job in a professional sport of their choice. Think of how many men play softball in leagues and even if they never say it, they keep track of their stats and love to believe that there might be a scout in the stands watching the action. There are former high school football players that know they could lace em' up one more time and run a route, catch a pass or apply that crucial block that could help in a game winning drive. Even I believe if given a couple of years with intense, proper training, that I could get on the Nascar circuit. Seriously? How hard could it be?

Then there are the hockey players. They call our station and they truly believe just because they play weekly in a beer league where they dominate, that they could have the same success in the NHL. Before you get offended, think about it for a second. You know I'm right. It's part of being a guy, we think we can play with the best even though there is no way we can.

The other day when I heard that the Arizona Coyotes were forced to call upon an emergency goaltender I got intrigued. In case you missed it, the Coyotes number one goaltender Anders Lindback suffered an off ice, lower-body injury literally hours before puck drop. Since the team had no time to call up a net minder from the minors, they were forced to text their emergency option who happened to be a 31-year-old bank manager. Nathan Schoenfeld hasn't appeared in a competitive hockey game since 2006 when he played on the Arizona State club team. Luckily for Schoenfeld, he never got in the game and did receive over $6,000 for showing up to be the back up. He also was named game MVP and got to wear a WWE-style championship belt that the team wears after wins.

Pretty cool story right?

So it got us at The Ticket wondering, do actual Red Wing players know who the teams emergency option is? Check out the video as the players and head coach Jeff Blashill ended up taking about much more than just the Wings emergency option.
