Carelessly Fried Chicken Might Be To Blame For Apartment Fire That Displaced More Than A Dozen Families

TAYLOR (WWJ) - Investigators think careless cooking might have caused an apartment fire in Taylor that left more than a dozen families without a place to live.

The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in a building at the Heritage Glen Apartments complex, near Wick and Pelham roads.

Investigators say a resident who was cooking fried chicken fell asleep. The fire quickly spread through the initial apartment unit and to seven others.

A total of 14 families were displaced as a result of the fire, according to reports. The American Red Cross is now working to secure temporary housing for those families.

The man who was cooking the chicken suffered an injured hand. No other injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation.
