Authorities: Armed Man Impersonating Cop Spoke To Kids Outside School

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Oakland County authorities are looking for a man who allegedly impersonated a police officer while talking to kids outside a school.

Sheriff's deputies were called to Alcott Elementary, at 460 W. Kennett in Pontiac, Saturday afternoon, on a "suspicious circumstances" complaint.

A woman told investigators two children, both 10 years old, told her they were playing basketball when a stranger in a black Kia SUV, parked in the fire lane at the school, called them over to the vehicle.

The kids said the man, who had a gun on his lap and a badge hanging around his neck, talked to them about the importance of staying in school before he claimed he "was a cop" and a "member of the SWAT team."

He gave the boys $20 and a football before driving away.

The children were not harmed.

The suspect is described as a white male, with a medium complexion, clean-shaven with brown hair. He has tattoos of words  on his arms and was wearing all black clothing with a black baseball cap which had "SRT" written on it in silver lettering. The gun was described as a silver revolver with a black handle.

On Thursday, Oakland County Sheriff's officials were still searching for the suspect.

"The safety of our children is our number one priority and if there is an individual misrepresenting himself as law enforcement, it brings us great concern," said Sheriff Michael Bouchard.  "If the public has any information leading to the whereabouts of this suspect, we ask that you contact the Sheriff's Office immediately."

Anyone who might know the suspect described or who has any information about this incident should call the Oakland County
Sheriff's Office tip line at 888-TURN-1-IN. Tipster may remain anonymous.
