High School Basketball Teams To Play 'Unity Game' After Shootings

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - The Muskegon Heights Academy Tigers will host Kalamazoo Lakeside in what's being called a "unity game" as people in both cities deal with recent incidents of violence.

MLive.com reports that Wednesday's matchup will be the Tigers final home game of the season, but not against its scheduled opponent.

Citing safety concerns after a shooting outside the Muskegon Heights school, Shelby Public Schools said it wouldn't let its boys' team make the trip.

Three people -- including two Muskegon Heights Academy students -- were wounded after a Feb. 9 game. A sheriff's deputy later shot and wounded the gunman, a Grand Rapids man.

Six people were killed and two others wounded Feb. 20 in three separate shootings in the Kalamazoo area. A Kalamazoo-area man is charged in those attacks.
