Winter Storm Warning: Heaviest Snowfall Expected During Tuesday Evening Commute

DETROIT (WWJ) - Between 3 to 9 inches of snow is headed for metro Detroit, with most of it expected to fall during the busy evening commute.

Winter Storm Warning is currently in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday for Livingston, Macomb, Oakland and St. Clair counties. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 to 11 p.m. Tuesday for Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

Following flurries in the morning, forecasters say snow will then increase in intensity during the afternoon, becoming especially heavy at times between 2 and 8 p.m.

For Livingston, Macomb, Oakland and St. Clair counties, storm total accumulation is expected to be between 6 to 9 inches. Forecasters say Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw and Wayne counties can expect a total accumulation around 3 to 5 inches.

Periods of snow will cause travel difficulties. Motorists should be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Several schools are closed Tuesday due to the snow, including all public schools in Livingston County. Click here to see the full school closings list.
