Oil Pipeline Work Begins Under River Raisin

RAISINVILLE TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Work has started on installing new crude oil pipes to run under the River Raisin in southeastern Michigan.

Large pipes were being installed at two construction sites in Raisinville Township in Monroe County. A spokesman for Ohio-based Marathon Petroleum Corp. told the Monroe News that crews are replacing an existing crude oil pipeline with pipes that will run deeper under the riverbed.

The spokesman said the project is proactive and would reduce potential risks to the waterway.

The pipeline supplies crude oil to a Marathon refinery in Detroit. The project is expected to be done in May.
