WATCH: Joe Louis Arena Preps For Basketball In This Timelapse Video

Joe Louis Arena is a legendary site for many reasons, mostly because of all of the history the Detroit Red Wings have been a part of there.

The venue has seen better days and will become obsolete in 2017 when the Red Wings move into their new home up on I-75 in the budding entertainment district.

However, this hockey arena still has life to it. The Joe will soon be filled with sounds of squeaking sneakers and dribbling basketballs as it prepares to host the Horizon League men's basketball tournament this weekend.

Above is a video of workers transforming the floor from the traditional Hockeytown ice to the Motor City Madness hardwood. Two local teams -- the Oakland Golden Grizzlies and the Detroit Titans -- will take part in the tournament and even have a chance to continue their Metro Series rivalry later in the tournament.

The tournament starts on Saturday and culminates with the championship game on Tuesday.

Will you be heading to the Joe to see some basketball this weekend?
