Unlicensed Dog Owners Fined $100 Each After Fatal Mauling

PORT HURON (WWJ/AP) - Owners of dogs that fatally mauled a 22-year-old woman in Port Huron have been fined.

Andrew Miller and Jessica Johnson each paid $100 last week. They had pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of having an unlicensed dog.

Authorities have said Rebecca Hardy climbed a fence Dec. 3 where the pit bull and husky were kept. She then was pulled into the yard by the dogs.

Hardy's death has been ruled a suicide because authorities believe she knew the risk of climbing over a fence and entering the yard. Tests also showed she was drunk and had used cocaine and marijuana at some point before her death.

The two dogs and a puppy were later euthanized.
