Police Investigate Death Of Man Found In Burning Van

MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ/AP) - Police in Oakland County are continuing to investigate the death of a man whose body was found in a burning van.

Firefighters discovered the body of 48-year-old Scott Kiesling in the driver's seat after responding to a fire in a transport company's van, which was parked outside the business on John R and Cowan Avenue.

Madison Heights Police Chief Corey Haines said the only witnesses so far are the individuals who reported Sunday night's fire.

"We're relying on the expertise of the fire department and the medical examiner to determine what may have happened," Haines told The Daily Tribune of Royal Oak.

Investigators also don't know why Kiesling was in the van. Haines says Kiesling "had no relationship to the business and the van did not belong to him."

Fire officials are uncertain how the fire was started.

Authorities are awaiting toxicology results on Kiesling following an autopsy Monday.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 248-585-2100.
