5 Teens Could Face Charges In Brawl After Walled Lake Basketball Game

WALLED LAKE (WWJ) - Five metro Detroit high school students could face criminal charges, following a brawl after a basketball game.

According to an email sent to parents in Oakland County's Walled Lake school district, a fight broke out outside Walled Lake Central High School after a game between Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Western.

Along with students from those schools, there were also kids from Farmington, Detroit, West Bloomfield, and the Oakland Opportunity Academy involved, according to officials with Oakland County Sheriff's officials — which has launched an investigation.

School officials said five students, ages 16 and 17, involved in the fight were identified with the help of a cell video that surfaced on Thursday.

The district's email says, as the investigation unfolds, students "will be prosecuted and/or disciplined o the full extent of the law."

"While this is unfortunate, safety is always our first concern. I would like to remind you and your children, Walled Lake Schools will not tolerate violence in our learning environments," the email concludes. "As always, the safety of our children is paramount and we will continue to do everything possible to ensure that they receive an exemplary education in a safe environment."

It does not appear that anyone was seriously injured in the incident. No names have been released.
