Move Over, Protein Shakes: Here's The Post-Workout Beer You've Been Waiting For

It's important to stay hydrated during a workout, but it's just as important to recover with the right amount of protein afterward.

For the longest time, the easiest way to get your daily amount of protein has been one of those thick, sometimes chalky protein shakes. Wouldn't it be nice to have a beer instead?

Sometimes I do; mostly after playing softball. Don't judge me, everyone does it (that's why it's called a beer league). But now everyone can do it without guilt thanks to MuscleFood Brewery's Barbell Brew.

Each 11 ounce bottle contains 21.8 grams of protein, more than is found in Gatorade's protein shakes. The good news is all of that protein comes with a 3.6 percent alcohol content, which is much less than Miller Lite's 4.17 percent ABV.

Despite the low alcohol content, the brewer says that the beer has a nice hoppy taste with 33 percent fewer calories and 85 percent fewer carbs than a normal beer.

"The palate is unlike any other beer you've tasted before with assertive, resinous hops, biscuit malt flavour and a unique sweetness coming from the protein.

Post swig – your taste buds will be treated to an aggressive, dry and satisfying hoppy finish."

A six pack of the brew will run you £13.00, or just over $18. Unfortunately for those of us in the States, the beer is only available in the UK for now -- so that post-game beer is still counterproductive.
