Man Arraigned In Attempted Break-In At Arab American News

DEARBORN (WWJ/AP) — A 20-year-old Detroit man has been charged in connection with an attempted break-in at the Detroit-area offices of The Arab American News.

Dearborn police say Deandre Bey was arraigned Thursday on attempted breaking and entering, larceny from a vehicle, malicious destruction of property and possession of burglary tools.

Bey was arrested Monday. Police continue searching for a second suspect.

Surveillance video shows two men apparently using a hammer to try to smash a rear glass door around 2:30 a.m. last Friday at the newspaper's office on Chase Road, just north of Ford Road in Dearborn -- which has one of the largest Arab-American populations in the U.S.

Employees were inside the building, working to publish the newspaper.

The men left without getting inside. Investigators aren't yet sure of a possible motive.

A probable cause conference for Bey is set for March 23, followed by an April 1 preliminary examination.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the second suspect is urged to contact police at 313-943-2242.
