HOWELL (WWJ) – Students and teachers at Highlander Way Middle School in Howell are grieving over the loss of one of their eighth graders.

Thirteen-year-old Matthew Longthorne died Saturday after an ATV accident.

Spokesperson for Howell Public Schools, Tom Gould, says counselors will be in place for students at Highlander Way Middle School where Longthorne attended.

“A counselor will follow Matthew’s schedule for the day so that counselor will be in each of his classes in case a student who had a class with him needs support,” said Gould.

Counselors will also be available throughout the district.

“If we need an additional counselor or two at Highlander Way as students grieve the loss – we’ll make sure that they are available so our students are supported.”

No new details coming from authorities on the circumstances surrounding the accident.
