State Police: Baby Critically Injured In I-75 Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - An infant has been critically hurt in an accident on northbound I-75 near Livernois in Detroit.

Michigan State Police said a total of four vehicles were involved in two separate accidents, at around 10:40 a.m. Monday.

"Basically, it started out as a three-vehicle crash," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, "and then a semi truck struck one of the vehicles that was involved in that crash."

The baby, who was in the car that was struck, was rushed to Children's Hospital for treatment. No one else was hurt.

Shaw said at this time it does not appear that the wet weather or alcohol were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The northbound lanes of I-75 at  Livernois were closed into the afternoon, but reopened at around 2:30 p.m.
