The Snack Attack: Krispy Kreme Transforms Cookies Into 3 New Doughnuts
Krispy Kreme is always creating new flavors for their freshly baked doughnuts and their new cookie-themed doughnuts just hit the streets.
The new flavors include the Snickerdoodle Doughnut, the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Doughnut, and the Oreo Cookies and Kreme Doughnut.
It's really hard to beat a classic Krispy Kreme doughnut, especially when they're hot off the line. Nothing is better than driving down the street and seeing that "HOT NOW" sign glowing brightly. These doughnuts definitely deliver when it comes to being tasty, but the "cookieness" of each flavor falls a little flat, in my opinion.
The cookie-inspired doughnuts are available at participating shops through May 15. In Metro Detroit, find these flavors at the shop in Allen Park (15050 Southfield Road) or in Troy (208 West 14 Mile Road).
The Snickerdoodle Doughnut
The Snickerdoodle Doughnut is a cake doughnut rolled in cinnamon sugar, drizzled with white icing and topped with snickerdoodle cookie pieces.
The doughnut was a little dense and cakey for my liking. It tasted less like a snickerdoodle cookie and actually more like of a cider mill doughnut. If only I had a glass of apple cider to wash it down! The flavor was heavier on the cinnamon and less on the sugar side, which was nice. The soft cookie crumbles on top were the most snickerdoodle-ish thing about this doughnut.
The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Doughnut
The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Doughnut is a new twist on an old classic. This doughnut features an Original Glazed doughnut topped with a cookie dough kreme dollop and a milk chocolate drizzle.
This was the least impressive of the cookie doughnuts. The doughnut itself was very yummy, as to be expected, but it's the kreme filling that really underwhelmed. It didn't taste much like cookie dough at all. If it weren't for the chocolate chips mixed in, you could argue it tastes like plain vanilla kreme.
The Oreo Cookies and Kreme Doughnut
The Oreo Cookies and Kreme doughnut is filled with decadent Oreo Cookies and Kreme filling before being dipped in dark chocolate icing. The doughnut is topped off with Oreo cookie pieces and white icing.
Ho-ly kreme! This is one filling doughnut -- I probably shouldn't have saved it for last because it's like a meal in itself. Kreme was bursting out of the sides with each bite, and it really tastes like you'd expect when you hear "cookies and crème." The chocolate frosting is really chocolately and the cookie crumbs really take it over the top.
Although it's probably the messiest, this is definitely the best tasting of the three cookie-flavored doughnuts.
