$2,500 Reward Offered For Tips In Case Of 3 Dogs Burned Alive In Westland

WESTLAND (WWJ) - The Michigan Humane Society is looking for tips as they investigate an appalling case of arson, robbery and animal cruelty.

Officials say three dogs were burned alive after a burglary on at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, at a home in the 38000 block of Warren in Westland.

"This crime is despicable on many levels," said Matthew Pepper, President and CEO of the Michigan Humane Society. "Not only was a family robbed of their belongings and displaced by a fire, they have to suffer the loss of their three beloved dogs. The dogs were trapped with no way to escape and suffered greatly before ultimately perishing."

There have been no arrests in the case, and the MHS Cruelty Investigation Department is now offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for what they're calling a senseless crime.

The dogs' bodies have been transferred to the MHS Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland for examination, as an investigation continues.

"The City of Westland and the Westland Fire Department appreciates the assistance on this case from the Michigan Humane Society," said Mayor William Wild. "This was a truly tragic situation and we urge the public to come forward with any information regarding this crime."

Anyone who may have witnessed this crime or who has any information is asked to contact the Westland Fire Marshall at 734-467-3260.
