Winter Weather, Wind Advisories Issued Across Southeast Michigan

DETROIT (WWJ) - Sure, it might be Spring Break -- as in spring is taking a break and letting winter rear its ugly head again.

The National Weather Service has issued two weather alerts for southeast Michigan on Saturday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. for Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. Forecasters say snow will develop during the afternoon hours, becoming moderate to heavy at times with snowfall rates of one inch per hour or greater. The highest snowfall is expected between the I-69 and M-59 corridors. Snowfall amounts are expected to vary widely, but could reach 1 to 3 inches of accumulation.

A Winter Storm Watch is also expected to be in effect from Sunday afternoon until late Sunday night.

Northwesterly winds of 30 to 35 mph will develop by this evening. The combination of gusty winds and heavy snowfall rates may lead to reduced visibilities of a half-mile or less.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. for Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. Forecasters say we'll have sustained winds of around 30 miles per hour with gusts to 50 mph. The westerly winds will strengthen this afternoon before shifting to the northwest this evening.

The strongest winds may accompany a line of rain or snow showers. Tree damage and scattered power outages might be possible, and driving high-profile vehicles may become difficult.

Here's a look at the forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:

Saturday -- Cloudy with rain and snow. Windy with snow showers this evening. High 42F. Low 24F.

Sunday -- Partly cloudy skies during the morning hours will give way to occasional snow showers in the afternoon. High 38F. Low 31F.
