Allegiance Health Becoming Part Of Henry Ford Health System

JACKSON, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Jackson-based Allegiance Health is becoming part of Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System and is getting a new name.

The health systems announced Tuesday that they've completed regulatory approvals and finalized a definitive agreement to combine. Under the change, Allegiance Health's 475-bed system will become "Henry Ford Allegiance Health."

The plans were announced last year. Henry Ford Health System says the agreement will allow it to offer health care in more communities beyond southeastern Michigan.

Henry Ford CEO Nancy Schlichting told WWJ Health Reporter Dr. Deanna Lites that the merger is a good fit.

"If I could convey one thing it would enthusiasm from both organizations as we come together, and just a feeling that this is well-aligned, you know, with a common vision, common culture, and real shared values,"  Schlichting said.

Under the plans, the partnership will invest $300 million in the Jackson community and surrounding areas over the next five years. The health systems say the investment will be used for new facilities, information technology and other new programs and services.

Henry Ford is a five-hospital system with numerous other locations.
