Work Moves Ahead On $25 Million Cancer Center In Port Huron
PORT HURON (WWJ/AP) - Work is moving forward on a new $25 million cancer center in Port Huron.
The first patient at the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Port Huron is scheduled to be treated in July, according to The Times Herald of Port Huron.
The exterior of the building's brick facade is finished, but still is waiting for steel siding and window installation to finish the shell. Inside, work is ongoing to complete the facility. The first floor includes radiation therapy and the second floor will house treatments including chemotherapy.
David McEwen, McLaren Port Huron vice president of operations, says the project is "in the home stretch."
A $162 million hospital expansion started last year. The 20,500-square-foot Karmanos Cancer Institute is the first phase. Next up is a new 70-room patient tower.
