Allegedly Drunk Warren Woman With Child In The Car Strikes A Sheriff's Patrol Car

A Macomb County Sheriff's Department deputy was injured at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday when his patrol car was struck by a 37-year-old woman allegedly driving drunk with a 12-year-old child in the car.

It happened on M-53 near 29 Mile Road in Washington Township.

Police describe it this way: As the sheriff's car was positioned on the shoulder of the freeway, a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by the Warren woman struck the side of the sheriff's car.

The sheriff's deputy was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

Deputies immediately sensed the other driver was intoxicated, they said.  After further investigation, she was placed under arrest for operating while intoxicated. She also apparently had marijuana in the car or on her person.

The arrested woman was transported to the Macomb County Jail where she was processed into the jail on charges of operating while intoxicated, child endangerment and possession of marijuana.

The deputy, a nearly five year veteran, was able to be released from the hospital at approximately 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The name of the woman will be released upon arraignment.
